D.I.Y. Deodorant

My armpits are officially in love.

I’ve been looking for a natural, toxic-free, comfortable, and most importantly, effective deodorant for months now, and I think I can finally say the search is over.  A simple recipe that includes only four ingredients, it goes on light, smells good and costs pennies.  And as far as I can tell, it WORKS, although it may need to be reapplied sometime during the day.  (By “works” I mean smell-free.  Sweat?  Yes.  Smell?  No.)

Measurements for the roll-on:

1/4 cup baking soda

1/4 cup cornstarch

3-4 tbsp coconut oil

10-15 drops of essential oil (I used lavender)

Measurements for the 12 oz (350 grams) glass jar:

1 cup baking soda

1 cup cornstarch

12-16 tbsp coconut oil

40 – 50 drops of essential oil

TIPS AND TO DOS:

  • Mix baking soda and cornstarch together.
  • If the coconut oil is solid, warm until liquified.
  • Add in coconut oil and stir until blended.  I like the deodorant on the drier side so I only use 3 tbsp per 1/2 cup of dry ingredients (1/4 c CS/1/4 c BS).  But you can put up to 5-6 tbsp depending on your preference.
  • Add in essential oil of choice.  Recommendations: lavender, tea tree, eucalyptus, peppermint.  Personally, I lean toward using more essential oil than not.  The coconut oil does tend to overpower the essential oil a bit, so I upped the ante to get more of a lavender punch.
  • Once blended together, pour into empty deodorant stick or glass jar.  You may need to put it into the fridge to firm it up a bit, depending on how warm it is in your home.
  • Get crafty and decorate your new deodorant bottle with your favorite inspiration.

Fertility Awareness : The things our mothers never told us, because our mothers never knew!

In my quest for natural and/or supernatural health in all areas of my life, I keep finding such amazing information that I must share with you!

About 8 months ago, my husband and I began our journey toward parenthood, and it has been a very educational yet frustrating experience.  I thought falling pregnant would happen the moment I wanted it to.  Little did I know there was much more to it than I had ever realized.  And I’m 34!  I should know everything about my fertility by now, right?

Wrong.  I now know I’ve been completely ignorant.  I haven’t known or been able to read the messages my body’s been giving me regarding my reproductive health.  And many of my friends have been here as well.  Just the other day, I was having tea with 2 friends, and we all agreed that more women need this type of education.  We need to have better fertility knowledge so we can make better fertility decisions.

It seems these days, women:

  • don’t know what the signs of fertility are and are instead using synthetic hormones to control their bodies, ignorantly causing much more harm than good
  • are believing they’re infertile and resorting to invasive procedures and toxic medicines, when the issue could possibly be remedied quite easily and naturally
  • are struggling through menopause

So it’s time we take our bodies back from the pharmaceutical farms and ignorant doctors, from the unnecessary worry and delayed pregnancies.  It’s time we educate ourselves so we can understand the language our bodies speak with.  And it’s time we start believing that anything is possible with His Wisdom, Knowledge, Power and Love.

So where to start with all this education?  Right here, with this book.  It will really help you wake up to all those things you never knew about your body, but would have really liked to!  I read it in one day and feel confident about my body in new ways!
